What to see and What to do in Tirrenia
Set in the centre of the Tuscan coast, Tirrenia rises along one wrap coastal of approximately 10 km. Completely dipped in the nature and situated a short distance from the important cities of Pisa and Livorno in a extremely fertile territory, in the course of the time Tirrenia has acquired the characteristics of both cities, which are located so near but have different traditions.
The best advantages which make Tirrenia an ideal place for a holiday are:
The sea and the opportunity to practice every type of water sport. The Mediterranean pinewood suitable for relaxing walks, bicycle rides or horse riding. The navigable river which houses small boats all year round. The ideal location, close to Pisa international airport, Leghorn harbour and the highway which crosses the west coast of Italy from north to south.
The Mediterranean climate makes any season pleasant for a stay in Tirrenia.
Close to Tirrenia lies Bocca d'Arno, where you can see hanging fishing-nets and enjoy that suggestive atmosphere evoked by so many artists, like Nino Costa, Gabriele d'Annunzio, Giuseppe Viviani.
Northern of the river mouth your can visit S. Rossore, with the Apuan mountains in the background. S.Rossore is a Regional Park rich of low dunes and plants pioneer. The beach is one of the unspoilt paradise of the Tuscan coast. To its shoulders greens are raised pinete, planted to leave to the 1700's, perfumed extensions of Mediterranean spot and borders of mixed forest, where it scrambles up towards chiome of the trees a rare liana, the periploca, and live follow-deer and wild boars.
A few kilometers away, you can admire the S. Piero a Grado Basilica where, as the legend says, Saint Peter landed when he reached Italy.
Other important monuments are the Tower of Meloria, which reminds people of the defeat of the glorious Marine Republic of Pisa and, on the way to Leghorn the Tower of Marzocco, which was built by Florentines in the XVth century.
