San Miniato
Founded by the Etruscans San Miniato was colonized by Augustan legionaries and became a military post called "Quarto". This is attested to by necropolis finds, the tombstones, marble sculptures, bronzes and mosaics discovered during excavations. The historic centre preserves medieval-borough characteristics with the Cathedral in its centre and at the highest point, as well as the Episcopal palace, the imperial palace and the fortress.
There are many testimonies of art and history throughout the town: the Monastery and Conseravtory of Santa Chiara, the Church of SS. Annunziata, Palazzo Grifoni e Formichini, the San Martino complex, the Church of Saints Jacopo and Lucia, the Town Hall, the Church of Misericordia and piazza Bonaparte
